Star Wars: Dark Sacrifice is a two-part story I'm been writing
off and on that takes place within the
Star Wars universe. This is a cover I've designed to accompany Part One. A lot of work went into this piece.
First, I created the star-field by taking a black layer and adding 'noise', adjusting the
Threshold and finally adding a 'blur'.
For the characters, I scanned various photos of actors
from the films. I have to give most credit to Star Wars Insider magazine. In fact, I used three different photos of Ewan McGregor to portray three of the characters. The large photo on the left is Ewan as the story's villain, Darth Magnus. Using a publicity shot of the actor, I 'desaturated' it to give his skin that 'dead' look, trimmed off some hair, added the mustache and bushy eyebrows, and finally a lense flare to his right eye for that 'evil' effect.
The two figures at the bottom were actually Liam Neeson and McGregor in a scene from Episode One. I added some shaggy hair and beard to
Ewan to create my character, Arcus, then took a headshot of Admiral Ackbar and placed it over
Neeson's to create the Jedi Master Qarr. Ditto for the hands.
The rest were minor alterations. I added the beard to
Ewan's Obi-Wan and placed some gray in his hair. The hologram of Palpatine was a still from
Episode One. The Imperial Shuttle and Tie Fighters were from stills from the original trilogy, and the planet is Earth.
As for the lightsabers, all I did was paint a straight line and run an 'outer-glow' effect, adjusting the color, opacity and blending until it looked right.
