CAPTAIN INFINITY arrives on Earth during the middle part of the twentieth century, where he recruits allies to join him in his cause. These terrestrial heroes include the married super-couple Jack and Jennifer Armstrong, known as OUTSTANDING-MAN and AMAZING-WOMAN respectively; Sam Drake, a.k.a. the vigilante NIGHTHAWK, Queen Leanna of Atlantis (HYDRO-WOMAN) and Barry Loughlin (PHASE). Alongside this newly christened "Infinity Force", the immortal Captain battles such evil foes as the destructive ELEMENTAL, the cold-hearted BLIZZARD, and the seductive, plant-like BOTANY. The team also confronts the Captain's evil clone and struggles with the growing conflict in Vietnam. In addition, we see the birth of the Armstrong children, Steven and Trevor, the rise to power of the evil MAXIMILIAN KAINE, and the tragic events that occur in Dallas, Texas 1963.

The team faces the greatest crisis of their lives when the sinister ALPHA-OMEGA begins his devastating attack on Earth. During this period Maximilian Kaine reveals the full extent of his treacherous ways, and Captain Infinity must make a choice that will save or doom the planet.

Sam Drake's role in the grand scheme of things will begin to reveal itself during the closing parts of Act I. He will reluctantly take on the temporary role of protector of the Armstrong children, as he attempts to defend the two boys from those who wish to exploit their growing powers. Later, Drake will confront his nemesis one last time, and realize that he must break a promise to an old friend.
